Well, after a fantastic weekend, I'm not feeling so sorry for myself anymore, although the hormones continue to rage. An expected monthly event is now about 3 weeks overdue - don't worry, it's not due to the 'regular' reason (can you imagine me as a Holy Mother figure?? Me neither). Since the delay doesn't portend the phrase 'eating for 2', the only real problem I'm having is that the hormonal stage that preceeds the monthly event has been extended, resulting in feelings of self-pity, irrational irritation, posts like the previous one, and flaking on friends ... for 3 FRIGGIN' WEEKS!
I managed to push all that to the side this weekend, though. I was productive on Friday night to the extent that I made a list of Things to Take to an Island, which included, in no particular order:
lip stuff
camera (with backup battery)
phone (charged)
sweatshirt
water
bananas
sandwich
sweater
hat
sunscreen
gum
bread
cheese
sausage
I also mapped everything out, and made notes of important times (such as when we had to be back to the ferry for the *1* trip it made back to Oakland).
Saturday found me getting up only an hour later than I usually get up to go to work :(, but I made it to the ferry building on time, with everything checked off my list and in my backpack. Lucia and Larry joined me and we headed off to San Francisco.
In SF, we changed ferries and met up with Willo, May, and lots of other neat people and set out for Angel Island. After 12 years in the Bay area, I finally set foot on Angel Island!! We had a great time, and I came back with a sunburn to be proud of. ALSO, we skipped the ferry back to Oakland altogether and caught a ride with some of Lucia's friends on their very own personal boat. It was lovely. And I *so* didn't need either the sweater or the sweatshirt that I lugged around all day.
That night I drove to supa hot Gilroy to hang out with my brother and his family. Lily was charming, as always, even though she was cranky from being woken up from a post-swimming nap so that we could eat. I stayed the night and got to see my brother play baseball for the first time in years - it was fun!
I escaped the 100 degree heat to come back and see The Wedding Crashers. If you feel you must see this in the theater, go to a matinee. And if you can get someone else to buy your ticket, even better. It was funny, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't worth much money, like, anything over $5.
And last night I ventured into the City to meet up with Dinah at Talullah. It was very nice and soothing given my weekend, but entirely too expensive. I didn't realize that those tiny Cokes I was blithely ordering were $3 each. I'm sure I'll go again, but I'll order water and share the cheese plate.
Now I'm back and work and happy about it - at least it's air conditioned here.
