Be your own Disneyland.

Sunday, August 27

So we went to see Journey and Def Leppard rock the Shoreline Amphitheater this evening, and rock it they did. Or Journey did, anyway. Def Leppard were not on their game tonight at all. They rallied a bit about halfway through their set, but no hearts were broken in our group when we left before the first encore. Journey, however, even with the new singer guy, were awesome. So much fun.

2 things:

1) so I talked to my mom tonight, the first time since I left their place the Sunday before last and guess what! She was sick all that Sunday night and the whole next day - you know, while I was in the ER! We're thinking it was either the Carl's Jr. we had for lunch or the Domino's we had for dinner. (We don't always eat fast food for 2 out of 3 meals in a day, but we were moving stuff, no time/energy to cook.) Anyway, that is a much better reason for last week's excitement than just 'mystery ailment'. Also, no CJr or Dominos for a looong time.

2) It's not too late to get your Def Leppard/Journey tickets for Saturday. We're sitting in the lawn area, and I'll have my cell phone with me. Let me know if you're going and we can rock out together. We will not be eating any CJr or Dominos beforehand.

I'm a sucker for memes, and Leia said so, so ....

5 things in my refrigerator:
1. Eggs
2. Hershey's chocolate sauce
3. Nail polish
4. A bag of lettuce (baby spring mix, if you must know)
5. Lots of mouldy cheese

(mind you, I've been out of town for a week, so 1) I'm working from memory and 2) this stuff is kind of old)

5 things in my closet:
1. Clothes
2. Bedding
3. Grandma's knitting basket
4. A stack of about 20 straw cowboy hats
5. Luggage

5 things in my purse:
1. Phone
2. Wallet
3. Camera
4. Lipstick
5. More lipstick

5 things in my car:
1. Sunscreen
2. Fastrack
3. Sunglasses
4. Umbrella
5. Maps

5 people to tag:
1. You
2. You
3. You
4. You
5. and You

... not so good at passing the torch on memes, unfortunately.

Thursday, August 17

You guys are awesome. I'm feeling much better these days. My appetite isn't back to normal, but maybe that's for the best. I eat too much anyway. At least the fever is gone and so is the nausea. I have spent the last two days lolling around, reading and watching videos, with some photo uploads in the meantime. I know this is too lazy for most of my friends, but this is just what I needed. No pressure to do anything, no guilt when I didn't do any of it. And tomorrow night, we're going to see Snakes on a Plane.

Wednesday, August 16

So the last few days have been rather exciting, in a not-that-great way. I woke up feeling fine on Monday morning, but just as I was sitting down to eat breakfast, my stomach said "maybe that isn't such a great idea." I get this feeling every once in a while, and I figured it was just hunger, so I ate my toast veeerry slowly, thinking the feeling would pass by the time I got to work.

It didn't pass. It didn't really get worse either.

A few hours later, I decided I'd had enough and went home to be horizontal and not waste any more of mine or my company's time sitting at my desk, unable to concentrate through the discomfort, wondering if I was going to be unable to prevent my coworkers from enduring the sound of my breakfast making an unexpected reappearance. I slept heavily for 3 solid hours and then took my temperature, which was over 100 degrees. Having learned my lesson about hoping things will "just get better", and knowing I had to be on a plane the next morning, I got an appointment with my doctor at 4:30. She finally saw me at about 5:00, did some poking about, and then announced that she suspected that I might have appendicitis! And I'd have to go to the emergency room to for a CT scan!

So by 5:30, I'm registered and everything ... followed by 9 hours of fear, boredom, sleepiness, more boredom, more fear, and 2 bottles of a barium suspension (bleh!!!!) (with more boredom and sleepiness and no energy for any more fear after that). Everyone was super nice, but holy cow, going to the emergency room sucks ass, big time. (photos here)

So they say I don't have appendicitis, but they don't know why I had the fever or the nausea (they kept asking me about my pain, I kept telling them there was no pain, only the desire to throw up all the time, argh!!). And I got on my plane, after 2 hours of sleep in my own bed, and dozed most of the way from SFO -> Minneapolis -> Dallas, and now I'm here, where it was over 100 degrees at 7 p.m. last night and feels much the same right about now.

To those of you who think I should have called you while I was in the hospital to let you know what was going on, I really wanted to, but I wasn't getting any reception.

Too late to make a long story short, all is well, as long as I don't move around a whole lot and stick to ordering miniscule, with a side of nothing. If nothing else, I think this will benefit my wasteline, if not my quality of life :)

Sunday, August 13

Sleeping in a house with no doors or curtains is weird. For the first time ever, I was grateful for a bathroom that did not have any windows.

Other than that, staying in my grandma's-soon-to-be-my-parents' house was awesome. It's in a fairly undeveloped area, so road noise (and kid noise) is almost non-existant. Also, it's single level, so you can't hear what everyone else is doing in the house by creaking floors, like in my parents' current house. And? Amazingly bright. It makes me want to move out of my dark apartment into some place that actually gets some sun.

I'm off to sleep in my clean bed. And then tomorrow I pack. And then the next day I get to stand in a security line for hours before I get on a plane to go to Dallas for a week. Yeehaw!

Hey kids, so I finally scored an invitation to Vox, and I've started splitting my blogging b/w these two sites. Yeah, it's a sickness. Vox is pretty neat, for those who are into blogging and social networking sites.

I have a few invitations one invitation of my own to bestow, if you're interested. Choose your contact method of choice over on the right and let me know!
